Ophthalmology – Surgical Eyecare

The Ophthalmology Department provides a comprehensive and efficient outpatient and surgical service to our patients that require further consultation or surgical intervention. The multidisciplinary approach to patient care ensures a smooth transfer of care for our patients.

Many conditions are treated within the department including, oculoplastics, lid bumps, emergencies requiring surgical intervention, severe diabetic retinopathy requiring laser treatment, disorders of the lacrimal system , pediatric squint and strabismus surgery. If surgery is required, most conditions are treated under local anesthetic allowing patients to recuperate in their own home. Conditions requiring hospitalization will be scheduled at Wake Med North, or NC Specialty Eye hospital in Durham.
